Quality time..
I love spending time with my son. I love his energy and his willingness to solve problems, wether the ideas are good or bad he’s always suggesting things and always taking initiative and it really makes me proud as his father to know that he is displaying characteristics that will be key benefactors to who he becomes as a man in the future. Its my responsibility to cultivate that in him, early. It’s a blessing, really. I’m justy in awe of him and I’m grateful to have this time with him this summer.
Fatherhood is great. I love being a father. Some may try to downplay the role of a father, especially in the african-American community and there are a lot of fathers that get a bad rap for whatever reason, but thing is for sure, the fathers who make it a point to be in the their children’s lives, deserve that chance. But I find that I am a part of a group of people who believe that there can be a change to that perception and to break that generational curse that has dismantled families, for years. I can’t speak for fathers of times past, but I can do my part to reader the negative stigma that can be bestowed upon black men as a whole.
As a parent, we don’t always get it right. I mean, I’m still trying to figure things out myself. But I’m blessed to have been given the opportunity to be a father. God chose me and gave me the responsibility of molding this young man to be the very best person that God called him to be. All while working through all of my personal stuff. As parents, we put so much of our own personal loves to the side so that we can provide for our children, but how can one balance the responsibility of parenthood all while still pursuing our dreams and passions? That’s something I’m still learning to do. I’ve made a great deal of mistakes but I have a lot of victories, too. I’m just glad that I learned from the mistakes and it’s made me a better father but also a better person and in a lot of ways, a better businessman. In business, you have to be patient but you also have to be stern. In addition to being compassionate and displaying a great deal of empathy.
So, today is for all of the parents out there, but especially the fathers. May you continue to shine and be great fathers for yourself kids and for yourself. Let’s continue to break down these curses and raise our children to the best of our abilities with God guiding us the entire way. God bless you guys and I pray that something great happens to you. Much Love ❤️ -Jermy
